Why Downpour Mountain?
Funny Story. Many years ago when my oldest daughter was around 9 or 10 years old, we came home from the grocery store in the middle of a terrential rain. My daughter and I decide to grab whatever we could carry and make a mad dash to the door. We got soaked!!! Instead of being upset that she got soaking wet, my daughter turned to me and said in some kind of silly voice “Mama, why we got to live on top of Downpour Mountain?” It struck me as so funny that day and to this day is how we still refer to our little homestead on the hill.
My daughter taught me a valuable lesson that day about not sweating the small stuff and finding humor in otherwise un-funny situations. That was one of the funniest moments with my daughter (who is now 22 years old) and to this day, whenever it rains hard she will ask me why we got to live on top of Downpour Mountain.
For me Downpour Mountain is synonomous with having the perserverance, grit, old-fashioned skills and humor to weather life’s storms, both big and small.
Hello there! I’m Barbi, and I’m the main person behind the scenes at Downpour Mountain. I want to inspire you to enjoy the simple pleasures of life and become more self sufficient. My husband Scott pops in from time to time to share his ideas as well (he’s the muscle, tractor driver, and carpenter).
Here I share from-scratch, farm-fresh recipes, herbal remedies, gardening tips, and other useful tricks to become self-sufficient and truly enjoy the life you’ve been given! You will also occasionally find information on foraging and wildcrafting, fermenting and preserving. And that’s just the beginning!
